In a recent study conducted in the UK, it was found that 60% of employees use apps on mobile devices for work related activity, which has been found to boost productivity by 34%.
What else? Millennials are officially the largest generation in the global workforce. As mentioned, the average millennial and their smartphone are pretty much one. The Bank of America conducted a study to see exactly how attached we’ve become to our smartphones. The results? Furthermore, 71% of the study’s respondents sleep with- or next to their mobile phones. For many people, smartphones have become an important part of their identity and daily life. In fact, 91% of adults keep their smartphone within arm’s reach at all times.

As mobile technology and flexible corporate cultures further develop, our definition of the office can too. Globally, close to 80% of the workforce will be defined as a “non-desk” worker, fundamentally turning the traditional work paradigm upside down. Flexible hours, working from home, or working from the field are the new reality. Today, employees can really work from anywhere. Even if they do come in to a brick-and-mortar workplace every day, it is likely that they check in on work related issues or information while at home, commuting to work, or grabbing their morning coffee.
